Ongoing growth in public cloud, next generation applications, and
wireless backhaul, along with deployments by massively scalable
data center companies, will drive 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) into its next major
stage of volume adoption, as networking bandwidth increases
five-fold over the next five years, according to a new report from
Crehan Research.
"Although there is some overlap in terms of timelines and
segments, we believe that we are now in the second of three major
adoption stages that 10GbE server networking will follow," Crehan
Research's president, Seamus Crehan, explained in a press
release.
A pressing need to support the fast-growing number of
high-bandwidth applications, technological maturity, and attractive
pricing have all come together in this current phase of market
evolution, the result being that the variety and number of
organizations deploying 10GbE is on the rise, according to
Crehan's, "4Q12 Server-class Adapter & LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM)
report. Public cloud companies and massively scalable data center
operators are leading the way.
At the same time, Crehan sees the third stage of the 10GbE market's
evolution gaining "good traction" this year. This third stage "is
where 10GBASE-T will start to see mainstream adoption," according
to Crehan's market model, offering vendors "the largest
server-access port and revenue opportunity."
As CHR clients continue to upgrade their networks to accommodate
services like 10 GbE, we stand ready to support these important
efforts. We recently
