The Federal Trade Commission has established Red Flag Rules which are designed to prevent identity theft. Virtually all telecommunications companies must establish written policies and programs that identify and detect the relevant warning signs — the so-called red flags — of identify theft. Plus your program must describe appropriate responses that would prevent and mitigate the crime.

The program must be managed by the Board of Directors or senior employees of the company, include appropriate staff training, and provide oversight of any service providers. All this is in addition to CPNI rules and enforcement of the Red Flag Rules begins May 1, 2009.

To help develop your policies, CHR Solutions and Bennet & Bennet presenters discussed this important topic during a 90-minute webinar in early September. CD-ROMs with the slides and audio (in Windows Media Player format) are available for a nominal fee of only $150.
