The world has just about run out of Internet addresses. Plus the current Internet has security and advanced services requirements that need updating. The new solution is called Internet Protocol version 6, or IPv6.
.
All U.S. government agencies have to transition their network backbones to IPv6 by June 30, 2008. That means IPv6 will affect every entity that does business with the Federal government, such as state and local governments, banks, hospitals, and more.
IPv6
also will facilitate new applications, increase security, and
improve the quality of voice and video
IPv6 will either become one of the largest cost increases to your IT budget (remember Y2K?), or will fundamentally change the way you can use technology and create a strategic advantage for your company.
